Rangers midfielder Matt Crooks has agreed terms which will see him join Northampton Town this summer, according to HITC Sport.

The news website report that the 23-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements at Ibrox by manager Pedro Caixinha, and that the League One side have swooped in to secure his signing.

His departure will mean he has spent just a year contracted to Rangers, having joined on a free transfer last summer having seen his deal at Accrington Stanley expire.

However he ended up making just three appearances for the Gers, only one of which was in the starting XI, before being farmed out to League One side Scunthorpe for the second half of the season, making his debut against his reported new side Northampton.

In total he turned out 12 times for the Iron, scoring three goals and picking up another assist as he helped them reach the League One play-off semi-finals, where they were defeated 3-2 on aggregate by eventual winners Millwall.

He will follow in the footsteps of Joe Garner and Barrie McKay, who have both been sold by Caixinha this summer, while Clint Hill and Phillipe Senderos saw their contracts at the club expire, and Andy Halliday has been shipped out on loan to FK Gabala in Azerbaijan.
