John Terry has completed a transfer to Aston Villa after signing a one-year deal, it has been announced.

The 36-year-old has joined the Championship side on a free transfer from Premier League champions Chelsea and he becomes Steve Bruce’s first signing of the summer transfer window.

The Midlands club confirmed his arrival on their official website and also on their official Twitter account on Monday afternoon.

It is a new challenge for the former England captain as he has never experienced playing football in the second tier of English football.

Terry has spent his entire career playing for his beloved Chelsea and he was instrumental in leading them during the most successful period in the club’s history.

The defender enjoyed great success during his 22-year spell at Stamford Bridge, winning five Premier League titles, five FA Cup trophies, three League Cups, one Europa League and a Champions League.

Terry was also an important part of the England national team, competing in four tournaments and making a total of 78 international appearances.

Villa will be hopeful that the defender’s arrival can help them achieve automatic promotion in the upcoming campaign after a disappointing 13th place finish last season.

Terry is set to make his club debut on the opening day of the Championship season as Villa host Hull City on 5 August.
