Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has held talks with Chelsea youngster Charly Musonda, according to a Mirror report.

The newspaper claimed on its transfer live blog [Sunday 11.04AM] that the Hoops boss is hopeful of bringing the 20-year-old attacking midfielder to Glasgow.

It is said the Bhoys are “closing in” on a £5million transfer for the Belgium Under-21 international.

This comes after Rodgers told the Scottish Sun he was close to securing a deal for a “big talent”, and that he was preparing to pay “good money” for a player, who was speculated by the newspaper to be Musonda.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2012 in a switch from Anderlecht, but he has failed to feature for the first team as of yet.

However, despite that he has impressed in the club’s various youth sides, and he has made 42 appearances across all competitions for the Under-23s.

The Belgian returned from a year-long spell on loan at Real Betis in January, where he impressed.

He spent 12 months at the Spanish outfit, and he played 24 league and cup games, which yielded one goal and three assists.

Musonda is most comfortable on the left-wing, but he has also spent time on the right and through the middle during his career.

The 20-year-old has been capped by Belgium Under-21s on 12 occasions.
