Aston Villa are considering signing Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur, according to the Daily Mail.

The 29-year-old is going into the final year of his contract at the south east London Premier League club and manager Steve Bruce is looking to bolster his team ahead of a bid for promotion.

A number of players from the Premier League have been linked with moves to Villa Park this summer and the Mail report states that John Terry has entered formal talks with the club and will complete his move on Monday.

Meanwhile, Stoke midfielder Glenn Whelan, Hull left-back Ahmed Elmohamady and Manchester United goalkeeper and former loanee Sam Johnstone are also named specifically in the report as being considered by Bruce.

Glasgow-born McArthur has been playing in England since leaving Hamilton in the summer of 2010 for Wigan for a fee of around £500,000.

He then agreed a £7million to Crystal Palace four years later in 2014 where he has since played 95 times, scoring nine goals.

Last season the 28-time capped Scotland international played in 31 matches in total for Crystal Palace, scoring five times while also turning provider on four occasions, but he may find it difficult to break into summer appointment Frank de Boer’s team in the next campaign.

Aston Villa, meanwhile already have a plethora of central midfielders in their squad, but they may look to add someone of more experience.
