Scotland international attacker Steven Naismith has told that he would “love” a return to Rangers in the future.

The now 30-year-old spent was on the books of the Ibrox giants’ academy before joining rivals Kilmarnock in 2002.

The Gers then re-signed him in 2007 for a fee of £1.9million and he went on to star in 132 matches for the club, winning the Premiership three times alongside the Scottish Cup and League Cup.

However, he took the decision to leave the club again in 2012 following the club’s fall into administration and resulting demotion.

Naismith has now told in an interview with BBC Sport that he regrets the manner in which he left the Glasgow giants and that he would be open to a return to the club in the future.

“I would never say never, because if I was coming back to Scotland then personally I would love it [returning to Rangers],” told Naismith to the BBC.

“There’s a lot of water under the bridge, they’ve moved forward under a new manager and, at the moment, I feel I still owe Norwich something.

“Last season wasn’t a great season and I’ve probably not played my best football in that time. I want to repay what they’ve done for me.

“I’ll definitely play [in Scotland] before I finish, I love the football, it’s where I started. So I will come back and play in Scotland.”

Since Rangers, Naismith has built up a career for himself in England, playing for both Everton and Norwich in the Premier League before suffering relegation with the Canaries in 2016.

He has remained with Norwich since their demotion to the Championship and last season the 45-time capped international played in 32 matches in all competitions, scoring seven goals alongside providing three assists.

The left-winger’s teammate Graham Dorrans is also being heavily linked with a move to Ibrox, but Naismith who still has two years remaining on his contract may have to wait.
