New Rangers signing Ryan Jack is confident ahead of the upcoming Europa League second leg tie against Luxembourg side Progres Niederkorn next Tuesday.

The 25-year-old made his official debut for the club last Thursday night as Rangers came away with a 1-0 victory against Progres in the Europa League qualifying round first-leg at Ibrox thanks to a Kenny Miller strike.

The defender completed the full 90 minutes as the Glaswegian side competed in their first European game for six years.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, Jack admits that the team could have performed better but he insists that he is delighted with the victory and he is looking to progress to the next stage with a positive result next Tuesday.

“We will look to step it up again next week,” he said.

“We set out to win the first leg and we did that. Obviously we would have liked to win by three or four, but it wasn’t to be.

“We still won the match and we will be looking to step it up a level next week.

“We’re confident we can go and win the match over there.

“I think as a team we need to work on how to break down the opposition when they obviously want to sit in and make it difficult for you.

“There is no doubt we will work hard in the next few days and we will be more than ready for Tuesday.”

Jack has been unfortunate when playing in Europe as he has never progressed to the group stages of the competition, failing to get past the qualifying rounds for three consecutive seasons with his former club Aberdeen.

The defender was not the only player making his debut for the club last week as new recruits Fabio Cardoso, Dalcio, Daniel Candeias and Alfredo Morelos all featured in the Europa League tie at Ibrox.

Rangers will be hopeful that the new signings produce better performances in the return leg on Tuesday as they bid to reach the group stages of a European competition for the first time since 2010.
