OPINION

Pedro Caixinha should risk the wrath of his own Rangers fans even further after their premature Europa League exit with the signing of ex-Celtic target man Daryl Murphy.

Murphy, 34, is currently turning out for newly-promoted Newcastle after playing an integral part in Rafa Benitez’s side towards the end of the season, as they finished as champions of the Championship.

The target man, who was signed from Ipswich in August by Benitez to act as back-up to top scorer Dwight Gayle, managed six goals in 22 league and cup appearances as injuries hampered his progress.

Rangers have already signed two strikers this summer in Alfredo Morelos and Eduardo Herrera, but neither managed to find the back of the net against Luxembourg minnows Progres Niederkorn in the Europa League.

Now, This Is Futbol considers why the Ibrox faithful would learn to love Murphy if he was brought to Rangers this summer, after playing in the green and white of Celtic for three years between 2010 and 2013.
