West Ham confirm Dobson departure

West Ham have announced that midfielder George Dobson has left the club to join Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam for an undisclosed fee.

The Hammers confirmed the 19-year-old’s departure via their official website as well as their official Twitter page:

The defensive midfielder had joined the club from London rivals Arsenal back in the summer of 2015, and while he did fail to make any senior appearances, he managed to earn himself a spot on the bench for matches against Tottenham and Everton in March 2016.

Last season saw him spend the entirety of last season at League One side Walsall where he was used primarily as back-up to the first team, making 14 starts in his 26 appearances, picking up a goal and an assist.

He returned to the London Stadium at the end of the season to join up with the under-23 side in their final Premier League Two matches, where they beat Wolves in the play-off semi final before defeating Newcastle United 2-1 away at St James’ Park to secure promotion to the top tier of the reserve league.

During his time with the under-23s he also helped them to pick up the Premier League cup back in 2016, and joins the likes of Havard Nordtveit and Enner Valencia in being sold by the club this summer.
