Watford have been in contact with Nottingham Forest over a potential summer deal for talisman Britt Assombalonga, according to the Northern Echo.

The newspaper claims that the Premier League side held discussions with the Forest hierachy over the weekend as they plan to bring the 24-year-old back to Vicarage Road ahead of the upcoming season.

The report claims that the new Watford boss Marco Silva is concerned about the future of the club captain Troy Deeney and he believes that the Forest striker is the perfect man to lead the line for the Hornets and replace his goals.

It is reported that Watford are ready to make an offer worth £10million for Assombalonga.

This follows up from the story in the Daily Mail which reported that Forest would be willing to listen to offers around £10million for the Congolese striker.

The Northero Echo reports that the Hertfordshire club are confident that they can beat fellow Premier League side Burnley and Championship side Middlesborough in the race to land the striker this summer.

Assombalonga spent the early stages of his footballing carer at Watford but he only managed to make four appearances with the first-team.

The striker has since gone on to prove himself as a recognised goalscorer in the Championship as his goals have been crucial to Forest over the last three years,

Assombalonga’s contract at the City Ground expires in 2021.
