Tottenham are on the verge of making Estudiantes defender Juan Foyth their first signing of the summer, according to ESPN FC.

The sports site claim that Spurs have started talks in London with Estudiantes president Juan Sebastian Veron about the Argentina under-20 defender and are confident a deal will be secured.

ESPN FC report that Tottenham have indicated they will not pay more than £10million for the 19-year-old, who can play in defence and midfield.

It is said that the Argentine club are holding out for fee of £15million but there is a sense that an agreement can be swiftly reached,

Tottenham are the only Premier League club not to make any signings this summer and are reportedly on the verge of selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City.

The seemingly imminent arrival of Foyth might not reduce angst among supporters given that he is a teenager and might be regarded as a player for the future rather than the upcoming season.

Veron, formerly of Manchester United and Chelsea, knows Mauricio Pochettino from their playing days with Argentina and he will thrash out the terms of the deal with the Spurs manager and chairman Daniel Levy.

It has previously been reported that Foyth has also agreed personal terms with Tottenham as he prepares to make a move to White Hart Lane.

The defender was promoted to the Estudiantes first team in January this year, and made his debut for the club in March during a 1-0 home victory over Primera Division outfit Patronato.

Tottenham are yet to sign any players in this summer’s transfer window, although they have been linked to a number of possible recruits, such as Swansea centre-back Alfie Mawson and Everton playmaker Ross Barkley.
