Manchester City are moving increasingly closer to agreeing a deal with Monaco for Benjamin Mendy, according to a Sky Sports journalist.

Kaveh Solhekol, a Sky Sports news reporter, has revealed that Pep Guardiola’s side has progressed majorly with negotiations surrounding the 22-year-old left-back.

The journalist claims that Monaco are demanding £50 million for the left-back, but a deal is imminent.

Solhekol shared the news on his official Twitter account on Thursday, where he told his 100,000 followers about the potential deal.

Mendy has been linked with Manchester City throughout much of the transfer window, and Pep Guardiola’s need for a left-back has only increased since Gael Clichy and Pablo Zabaleta left the Etihad this summer.

The 22-year-old is incredibly desirable to the City boss after the defender made an enormous impact during his debut campaign with Monaco last season.

The French defender joined Monaco from fellow Ligue 1 outfit Marseille last summer on a five-year-deal worth just over £11 million.

Mendy made a significant contribution to Monaco’s Ligue 1 title victory, as he played in 25 games within the competition and provided five assists.

His impressive performance throughout the season led to a call up to international duty, where he made his debut for France in their 1-3 victory over Luxembourg during the World Cup European qualifications.

Guardiola has secured two signings so far during the transfer window as he has recruited Mendy’s fellow team mate Bernardo Silva and Benfica keeper Ederson.
