Tottenham fans have aired their delight on Twitter after Erik Lamela was pictured returning to training on Monday morning.
The north London club are getting their pre-season training underway ahead of another exciting campaign for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and on Monday the official Spurs Twitter account posted the images of Jan Vertonghen, Vincent Janssen, Toby Alderweireld and Lamela all reporting back for training.

It was of course the image of Lamela which caught the attention of the Tottenham support given that he hasn’t featured for the first team since October 2016 after suffering a long-term hip injury following a 2-1 EFL Cup defeat against Liverpool.
Many of the fan base on social media likened it to a new signing and with the club’s current lack of additions many were overjoyed to see the Argentina international make his long awaited return.

Erik Lamela. The greatest. Our saviour. The big man returns. Better than a new signing announcement. https://t.co/YGZwID9VH1

A fit and healthy Lamela would be very nice for the new season. Kinda given up hope that he'd ever return so nice to see him at least.

Lamela completed a move to Tottenham back in 2013 for a then club record £25.8million from AS Roma.
He had struggled for consistent form in his first three years at the club, but before his injury last season he managed a fine return of seven assists and two goals in 14 matches in all competitions.
Tottenham fans will now be hoping that when he does return that he can pick up from where he left off as the club prepares a title challenge.
