Manchester United are willing to make an irresistible £60million offer to Tottenham in a bid to sign Eric Dier this summer, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim that United manager Jose Mourinho wants his club to make Spurs an offer they cannot refuse for the England international as he attempts to land one of his priority targets.

The Mirror reports that the Europa League holders have hit a brick wall in their attempts to persuade the Londoners to cash in on Dier, 23, and a £40million bid has made no headway.

It is said that Mourinho is refusing to give up his pursuit of the versatile central midfielder, who can also slot in to defence, and is pushing United vice chairman Ed Woodward to secure the deal.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy does not want to sell Dier but could find it hard to resist such an enormous bid as the club need to meet the costs of paying for their £800million new stadium that will completed in time for the 2018-19 season.

Intriguingly, the Mirror report that the 19-times England international is keen to move to Old Trafford, which gives United hope that a deal is possible.

Dier signed a new five-year contract last September worth around £70,000-a-week but Mourinho could tempt him with a deal worth more than double that.

With Kyle Walker potentially also heading to Manchester City, there would be mutiny on the White Hart Lane terraces if they lost another first team mainstay, although a reported striker hijack may sweeten the pain for supporters.
