Three first team stars Benitez should offload at Newcastle

|

Paul Dummett, 24 – Left-back

A stalwart at the back for Newcastle last season, Dummett was named in every one of the club’s matchday squads, and he failed to play in just one, instead being an unused substitute.

First choice at the back during Newcastle’s ill fated 2015/16 Premier League season, his place in the starting XI is due to a lack of worthwhile competition as much as it is his talent.

The club’s other left-backs, Massadio Haidara and Achraf Lazaar, have never looked worthy of usurping the 24-year-old, but Dummett himself has looked unconvincing in both the Premier League and the Championship.

A defence minded full-back, he lacks the attacking talent to pose much of a threat down the flank, which has proven to be an important asset in the success of top flight sides.

Benitez will surely be looking for at least one new left-back this summer, but with the Welsh international’s two international caps and 66 Premier League games under his belt, he could be offloaded for a reasonable fee to reinvest this summer.

2016/17: Appearances: 45 – Goals: 0
