Three first team stars Benitez should offload at Newcastle

|

Jack Colback, 26 – Defensive midfield

Former Sunderland enforcer Colback made the short journey to Newcastle in the summer of 2014, signing on a free transfer.

A tough tackling, no nonsense defensive midfielder, his role has always been to break up attacks, win the ball back and ensure that the defence do not need to be called into action.

However, his disciplinary record has earned him a reputation, with his tendency to nip at the oppositions ankles earning him more yellow cards than he or the club would like.

Usurped by Isaac Hayden last season, Colback looks slow and cumbersome in comparison to the 22-year-old’s slick passing and confidence on the ball, and Newcastle fans will be hoping that it is the former Arsenal man who gets the nod in midfield next season.

While there are no direct replacements for the 26-year-old lined up at the club, Benitez will likely to be looking to bring in midfield reinforcements, and Colback should be shipped out to accommodate any new arrivals.
