Newcastle confirm Armstrong loan

Newcastle have agreed a loan deal with Bolton that will see Adam Armstrong join the Championship side for the first half of the upcoming season.

The Magpies confirmed the 20-year-old striker’s departure via their official website, as well as on their official Twitter account:

The young forward is set to be at the Macron Stadium until the start of January, as he heads out on loan for the third time of his Newcastle career.

His first temporary stint came in League One, where he shone for Coventry City during the 2015/16 season, scoring 20 goals in 40 league appearances to finish as the club’s top scorer as well as being named in the PFA’s team of the year for the third tier of English football.

Last season also saw him shipped out, this time to Championship side Barnsley, although he could not live up to his Coventry form as he scored just six goals in 36 appearances.

He will be hoping to show an improvement in the second tier with Bolton, who have returned to the league as a result of their second placed finish in League One.

Armstrong returned to St James’ Park this summer as a World Cup winner alongside club team mate Freddie Woodman, as the duo played their parts in England Under-21s’ victorious campaign in South Korea.
