Nottingham Forest striker Britt Assombalonga is undergoing a medical at Middlesbrough ahead of a proposed £15million move, according to a reliable journalist.

Keith Downie, who is Sky Sports’ North East England reporter, claims on his personal Twitter account that the 24-year-old forward is on the verge of securing the move, which would see him become Middlesbrough’s record signing:

Downie reports that the fee agreed between the two sides would be around £2.2million more than the fee spent to bring Brazilian forward Afonso Alves to the club from Dutch side SC Heerenveen back in January 2008.

Meanwhile the Sun claim that Boro have been willing to offer Assombalonga £60,000-a-week to secure his signing, with Premier League sides Burnley and his former club Watford both said to be interested.

However, it appears that the Nottingham Forest man is set to stay in the second tier of English football, with Boro boss Garry Monk hopeful that he can fire the club back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The North East side dropped down as a result of relegation alongside Hull and Sunderland, but have already begun recruiting reinforcements for their promotion fight.

Assombalonga could partner former Toulouse forward Martin Braithwaite up front for the club, while they have also brought in Jonny Howson from Norwich, Cyrus Christie from Derby and Connor Roberts on loan from Swansea.
