Everton winger Aiden McGeady is on the verge of becoming a Sunderland player, according to the Northern Echo.

The newspaper claims that Sunderland officials are confident that the 31-year-old can complete a deal worth £2million to the Stadium of Light “in the next couple of days”.

The report claims that the midfielder still has to resolve some contractual loose ends with the Merseyside club before officially signing for the Championship side.

The Black Cats have already completed the signing of two Everton players this summer with Brendan Galloway and Ty Browning both securing season long loan deals.

Since making his move to Goodison Park in the 2014 January transfer window, McGeady has struggled to hold down a regular place in the starting lineup at Everton.

The Republic of Ireland international has only managed to notch up one goal in 47 appearances for the Merseyside club which came against Leicester City in the opening day of the 2014-15 Premier League season.

The midfielder has spent the majority of his Everton career out on loan in the Championship with Sheffield Wednesday and Preston North End.

Mcgeady was in fine form for Preston last season, contributing with eight goals and nine assists in all competitions.

Sunderland will be hopeful that he can replicate that type of form at the Stadium of Light next season as they look to bounce straight back to the Premier League.
