Tottenham goalkeeper Michel Vorm has said that he is ready to step up from the sidelines as the club look to bounce back from the disappointment of not picking up silverware last season.

The North London side finished second in the Premier League as Antonio Conte led his Chelsea side to the top flight title in his debut season, while they were also knocked out of the FA Cup at the semi-final stage by the Blues.

However, they finished as the top scorers in the league with 86, one more than Chelsea, and they also demonstrated their defensive resilience with the least goals conceded, three less than the second best defence at Manchester United.

While Harry Kane took all the plaudits at the top of the pitch with his 29 goals earning him the golden boot, Tottenham’s number one Hugo Lloris was helped out by 33-year-old stopper Vorm, who stepped in for five Premier League outings due to injury or squad rotation.

However, despite playing second fiddle to the French shot stopper, the Dutchman insists he will be ready to take his place between the sticks next season, as they look to improve on last season.

He told football news website Dugout: “I have to be ready, as I’ve always been, to keep him (Lloris) sharp and to play if I’m called upon.

“As a squad, we just want to improve. If you look at the stats last season, it was amazing.

“It was just a shame we didn’t get something to show for it.

“That drives us again. I look forward to it.”

Having signed from fellow Premier League side Swansea City in the summer of 2014, Vorm has found first team action difficult to come by, with just 32 appearances across all competitions under his belt for the Lilywhites.
