Everton should re-ignite their 2016 interest in Sunderland defender Lamine Kone after Burnley reportedly made an enquiry for the French defender.

The Daily Mail claimed in their live transfer news blog (Saturday, 5.26pm) that Burnley have approached the Black Cats who are unlikely to keep the 28-year-old defender after suffering relegation from the Premier League.

The former Bordeaux defender was in demand last season, with Crystal Palace, West Brom and West Ham also keen on signing the Ivory Coast international before he signed a new contract which is said to be worth £60,000 a week.

Ronald Koeman could look to add to his defence even further after signing Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane, while deals for Davy Klaassen, Henry Onyekuru and Sandro Ramirez have also gone through.

This Is Futbol considers why Everton need to sign another central defender alongside Keane this summer and Kone could be just the man if manager Koeman is still a fan of the powerful centre-back.
