Everton return for Sigurdsson with £32million bid

|

Everton are set to make a second bid of £32million for Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson after seeing their last offer rejected, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report on their website that the Swans rebuffed the Toffees’ £27million bid for the 27-year-old, but this has not deterred the Merseyside club in trying to secure their top target.

Whether or not Swansea entertain the bid awaits to be seen, after the Liverpool Echo claimed that the Welsh side would demand in the region of £40million for the Icelandic international.

Sigurdsson has established himself as a proven Premier League performer at Swansea, with 37 goals and 30 assists in 131 appearances since originally joining on loan in 2011 and then rejoining permanently in 2014.

However he did fail to live up to expectations during his two season spell at fellow top flight side Tottenham, with just 13 goals and nine assists in 83 outings.

He has also become a key player for his country, with 15 goals in 50 appearances for Iceland since a 30 minute debut as a substitute in a friendly against Andorra in May 2010.

Last season saw Sigurdsson appear in every of Swansea’s Premier League matches, scoring nine goals and providing 13 assists as he helped secure the club’s place in the top flight.

If the Swans did accept Everton’s £32million offer, it would be the second time the Toffees have broken transfer record this summer, after snapping up Sunderland and England U21 goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for a reported £30million.

Manager Ronald Koeman has had a busy summer window so far, also bringing in Dutch midfielder Davy Klaassen, Spanish striker Sandro Ramirez and Nigerian winger Henry Onyekuru to Goodison Park.
