Leeds United defender Lewie Coyle has joined Fleetwood on a season-long loan, it was confirmed on Tuesday.

The Yorkshire giants announced on their official website and social media channels that the 21-year-old is to link up with ex-United manager Uwe Rosler for the 2017-18 campaign.

Ahead of the loan deal, Coyle put pen to paper on a new contract that ties him to Elland Road until 2020. It replaces his previous deal, which was due to expire in 2019.

The transfer continues the whirlwind of player activity at Leeds following the appointment of Thomas Christiansen as manager last month.

Coyle is the second full-back heading out of Elland Road as Charlie Taylor will reportedly imminently be confirmed as a new signing of Premier League club Burnley.

Sky Sports reported on Tuesday that Taylor, 23, has already completed a Burnley medical and his move is set to be finalised by the end of this week after his contract at Leeds had expired.

Coyle has been unable to make the same impact at United after following Taylor in graduating from the club’s academy.

The right-back, who made his debut for Leeds back in December 2015 , has accumulated 22 first-team appearances, 10 of which came under ex-manager Garry Monk last season.

He will link up with Rosler at Fleetwood, who finished in fourth place in England’s third tier last season.
