Antonio Rudiger undergoes Chelsea medical

Roma defender Antonio Rudiger is currently undergoing a medical at Premier League champions Chelsea, according to Sky Sports Italy.

The report by the broadcaster on their website claims that the Blues have reached an agreement with the Serie A club for the 24-year-old and the defender is set to sign a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge this summer.

It is reported that Chelsea will pay around £30million for the central defender and the player is set to earn up to £4million a year – equivalent to £77,000-a-week – with the London club.

The German will become Chelsea’s second signing of the summer transfer window after they snapped up former Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero on a free transfer.

It appears that the Blues have beaten Premier League rivals City to the race to land the defender as the Mirror recently reported that Pep Guardiola was planning to make an offer for the German in the next few weeks.

Although he missed the start of last season with a terrible cruciate ligament injury, Rudiger enjoyed an impressive campaign with Roma, making a total of 36 appearances in all competitions.

The defender was also part of the Germany national team who lifted the Confederations Cup in Russia this summer.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will be hopeful that the defender can help the Blues retain the Premier League title for the only the second time in their history.
