Paul Butler has become the latest Leeds United arrival after beating John Pemberton to a role on the club’s coaching staff, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The regional newspaper claim that Butler, 31. has been added to the backroom team who will work under Thomas Christiansen in the new campaign.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report that Butler took United’s pre-match warm-up ahead of Saturday’s pre-season 5-1 friendly win at non-league Guiseley and is the latest addition to the coaching team installed following Christiansen’s appointment last month.

It is said that Butler has been appointed to bring crucial domestic experience to the staff, with all four other men hailing from Spain.

He beat ex-Leeds defender and former Bristol City assistant Pemberton to the key role due to his lower league knowledge taken from spell at Doncaster Rovers, Oldham and Fulham.

Christiansen named Julio Banuelos as his number two after they worked together at APOEL and AEK Larnaca, Ivan Torres is the new fitness coach and Marcos Abad is the goalkeeper coach.

Like former Spain international Christiansen, they are Spaniards.

They have replaced the backroom team put in place be ex-Leeds manager Garry Monk, who quit in May shortly before joining Middlesbrough and took four members of his staff with him.

Leeds have also made six new signings this summer, with the latest arrival Vurnon Anita on Thursday.
