Rangers have completed the signing of Vitoria Setubal defender Fabio Cardoso – and fans on Twitter are hungry for more signings.

The Scottish giants announced on their official Twitter account on Wednesday morning that the Portuguese defender had completed his move to Ibrox on a three-year deal.

The 23-year-old centre-back becomes the fourth summer signing for Rangers and their second defensive recruit, as the Scottish club continue their busy summer revamp of the first-team squad.

Cardoso follows fellow Portuguese centre-back Bruno Alves to the club, after the 35-year-old was confirmed as the first new arrival on May 31.

Rangers have since moved to add Aberdeen midfielder Ryan Jack and Benfica forward Dalcio to their ranks, with the latter arriving on a season-long loan.

But there is plenty more still to come from Rangers and Caixinha, with duo Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera awaiting work permit clearances before being given the green-light to complete their moves.

Rangers fans have been excited by the speed of the club’s transfer business so far this summer, and the latest announcement has left them eager for more new arrivals.

The arrival of Cardoso – as well as Alves – comes after Caixinha deemed experienced centre-back duo Clint Hill and Philippe Senderos surplus to requirements at the club.

However, at least one more defender could find themselves at risk of being offloaded this summer, with some Rangers fans believing Cardoso could kick Rob Kiernan out of the Ibrox setup.

Caixinha already has Kiernan, Danny Wilson, David Bates and Lee Hodson at his disposal in the centre of defence, and the addition of the Portuguese pair adds even further competition.

Cardoso began his professional career with Benfica, although he failed to break beyond the reserve team setup before joining Vitoria Setubal in 2016.

He made 55 appearances for the Benfica B team between 2012 and 2016, scoring three goals.

The defender has also featured regularly within the youth ranks of the Portugal national team setup, making appearances at Under 15 through to Under 20’s level.
