Rangers’ move for Al Qadsia ace Rashid Sumaila is off due to unforeseen complications, according to a Ghana Soccer Net report.

The football news website, which was cited by the Daily Record, claims the 24-year-old centre-back has been forced to look for a move to a different club after his move to the Gers collapsed at the last minute.

It is said Sumaila is under contract with Al Qadsia until 2020, but that his agent will try to find another club who is interested in taking him on.

This development will come as a blow to Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha who is well acquainted with the 24-year-old, as he managed the player during his time at former club Al Gharafa.

This comes after Sumaila’s representative Pedro Serpa Pinto told the Mail in May that the Glasgow giants had contacted Al Qadsia over a potential summer transfer.

It was said that the no-nonsense centre-back was keen on a reunion with his former boss, and that Pinto was convinced that a deal would be struck which would see his client join Rangers.

Sumaila is currently on international duty with Ghana, who have two upcoming friendly fixtures against Mexico and the United States.

The 24-year-old has been capped by the Black Stars on six occasions and he made the 23-man squad for the 2014 World Cup.
