Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has revealed that he declined an offer from Turkey as he wants to stay at the Etihad for the remainder of his contract.

The 26-year-old wouldn’t reveal which club had made the offer but told Turkish-Football that he wanted to continue at Man City, and was quoted saying: “I received an offer from Turkey but declined because I want to stay at Manchester City and I have big goals to achieve first.

“I will be 29 by the time my contract with City runs out. That is when I will consider my future.”

The German international moved to Pep Guardiola’s side from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund last summer for a fee close to £23 million.

He signed a four-year deal with the club, and still has another three years remaining at the Etihad.

However, the midfielder only managed to make 10 appearances for City, where he provided three goals and a single assist before he was sidelined with injury.

Gundogan has been out of Guardiola’s squad since December last year after he ruptured his cruciate ligament against Watford which saw the German miss a total of 30 games for his new club.

The former Dortmund star was late making an appearance for City at the beginning of his season owing to a dislocated kneecap, but his contribution during his debut match against Borussia Monchengladbach impressed fans.

Up until the midfielder’s injury Guardiola utilised Gundogen in an attacking role, rotating him with David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne.

The German is thought to be able to return to the City squad in early September, with Pep’s team installed as favourites with many Football Betting Odds online.
