Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has been told by one of his coaching staff to take a closer look at HJK Helsinki goalscorer Alfredo Morelos, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper report that Rangers first-team coach Jonatan Johansson has recommended the goal-a-game European striker to Caixinha, who is targeting multiple new additions to his squad at Ibrox.

Caixinha has already added four signings this summer, but the Portuguese is showing little let-up in his overhaul of the first-team squad, with several more targets reportedly on the radar.

But Morelos, who was in superb form during last season’s Europa League, is the latest name to be linked with a move to the Scottish club, following the recommendation of ex-Finland international Johansson.

Morelos, 20, netted 21 goals from just 25 appearances in all competitions, including four goals from six games during HJK Helsinki’s Europa League qualifying campaign.

HJK are believed to be “resigned” to losing their star goalscorer this summer, despite him arriving at the club on a two-and-a-half-year deal in January.

He had earlier joined the club on loan from Independiente Medellin, but his impressive form has caught the eye of Rangers coach Johansson.

Rangers have yet to add an outright centre-forward to their ranks this summer, although the club are reportedly keen to push through a deal for Mexican forward Eduardo Herrera.

The Daily Record have claimed that the 28-year-old has already agreed on a move to Ibrox, but is yet to be granted a work permit to green light the transfer.

However, Caixinha may also consider adding Morelos to further boost Rangers’ chances of success in European and domestic competitions next term.

His current centre-forward options are limited to veteran Kenny Miller, Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner.
