Rangers’ interest in taking Benfica ace Salvador Agra on loan this summer has been “flatly denied” by sources at the Scottish giants, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claimed on its transfer rumours live blog (Friday, 4pm) that they were told by Ibrox sources that the Glasgow giants have no interest in the 25-year-old.

This comes after O Jogo claimed there was a “possibility” that the winger could be sent out on loan to Rangers this summer, despite only joining Benfica on Wednesday.

The Portuguese news outlet stated Agra would be allowed to leave Benfica on loan next term, even though he only arrived from Nacional on a three-year deal.

The right-sided midfielder was a mainstay for Nacional this term, making 31 league appearances, scoring three goals and supplying five assists.

He is a four-time Portugal international, playing all four games of their 2016 Olympic Games campaign.

It was said Vitoria de Setubal were also interested in taking the 25-year-old on loan this summer, and with the rumours surrounding Rangers seemingly untrue, they could be the front-runners for his services.

Gers manager Pedro Caixinha has already started his squad overhaul by signing Bruno Alves and Ryan Jack earlier this week, but he is still looking for further reinforcements ahead of the 2017/19 campaign.
