Newcastle have had their odds slashed on signing Fenerbache centre-back Martin Skrtel this summer, according to Ladbrokes.

The bookmakers have reported on their website that they have cut original odds of 8/1 to just 2/1 for the 32-year-old to make the move to the north east of England this summer.

However, while it is believed by the bookmakers that Skrtel will move back to England over the next window it is not yet certain that it will be the Magpies with “Any Premier League Club” priced lower than the Toon at evens.

Meanwhile, fellow Premier League side Swansea trail in third with current odds of 7/2.

Skrtel previously worked with Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez while at Liverpool and the pair spent two years between 2008 and 2010 on Merseyside.

The 88-time capped Slovakia only left the Reds last summer in a £5million deal to Turkish giants Fenerbache and last season he featured in 49 matches in all competitions.

However, a return to the United Kingdom and working with Benitez once again could prove enticing to the 2012 League Cup winner, who still has two years left on his contract with Fenerbache.

Benitez, meanwhile will be looking for players who he feels can help the side stay in the Premier League and Skrtel has previously featured 242 times in England’s top-flight.
