Former midfielder Jose Baxter will re-join Everton next week after serving a season-long drugs ban, according to the Times.

The news outlet details that the 25-year-old will be able to register with a team from July 1 with the drugs suspension due to end on Friday.

It is believed that the Toffees will be the club to hand him a way back into football and it is stated by the Times that he will report to the Merseysiders on Monday and will work with David Unsworth’s Under-23s squad.

It is also understood that he will be handed a season-long contract with previous team Sheffield United choosing to release him in May 2016 following two suspensions from the Blades for two separate incidents.

The former England Under-17 international was once thought of as a bright prospect in the Everton youth ranks and became the club’s youngest ever senior player in 2008 aged just 16 and 191 days.

However, he struggled to break into the first team on a regular basis and just four years later he completed a permanent switch to Oldham in League One.

Baxter found his footing at the Latics and starred for the club in 50 encounters, which saw him score 17 goals alongside scoring eight himself before completing a £500,000 deal to Sheffield United.

He will now be keen to restart his football career and a return to familiar grounds could be the perfect move for him.
