Leeds United have tabled a bid for FC Twente midfielder Mateusz Klich, according to Dutch publication Tubantia.

The media outlet claim that United have been keeping close tabs on the Poland international for some time and have now taken steps to prise him away from the Eredivisie club.

Tubantia report that Leeds have lodged an opening offer for Klich that has been rejected and are ready to return in the near future with a fresh move.

It is said that Klich is “eagerly awaiting” a transfer from Twente, who he joined last summer from German second-tier club Kaiserlautern on a free transfer.

Klich, 27, is a central midfielder who is capable of chipping in with a regular supply of goals and assists, something that was beyond those who played in that position for Leeds last season such as Liam Bridcutt, Ronaldo Vieira, Eunan O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips.

The 10-times Poland international was a mainstay of the Twente team that finished seventh in the Dutch top flight in 2016-17.

He made 29 league appearances, which yielded a highly impressive return of six goals and four assists.

Klich has a contract with Twente that runs until the summer of 2019.
