Pundit Chris Sutton believes Nottingham Forest will be getting a “cheap” deal if they prove successful in their attempts to land striker Jason Cummings.

The former Celtic striker took to his personal Twitter account on Sunday evening to deliver his verdict on the pursuit, after reports emerged that Nottingham Forest had tabled a £1million-plus offer for the Hibernian goalscorer.

He said: “£1million cheap for Cummings. Thought Warbs would be in for most of the Rangers players he recruited.”

Both Sky Sports and the Daily Record had earlier claimed that the Championship side had kicked-off their summer transfer business with an opening offer for the in-form Scottish Premiership striker.

But Sutton also hinted at his surprise that Warburton had yet to launch a raid for his former Rangers players, having ended an ill-fated 18-month spell at Ibrox in February.

Cummings, 21, was in superb form during the 2016-17 season, scoring 23 goals from 40 appearances in all competitions as Hibernian secured promotion to the Scottish Premiership.

The Scotland Under-21 international has been at the Scottish club since 2013, and is under contract until the summer of 2020, but could be tempted to join the Mark Warburton revolution at Forest.

Warburton is expected to put his own stamp on the Nottingham Forest squad for the first time this summer, having been appointed as manager at the City Ground in March.

He helped the club narrowly avoid relegation from the English second-tier, and has set his sights on strengthening his ranks this summer, with Cummings seemingly his priority target.

The Record report also states that Warburton has already held talks with the striker over a potential move, and was interested in signing him during his time as Rangers manager.
