Celtic are set to beat the likes of Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City to the signature of Aberdeen assist king Jonny Hayes, according to Team Talk.

The football website claims that the Scottish Champions have won the race for the 29-year-old ahead of a host of clubs, including frontrunners and English Championship side Cardiff.

Right winger Hayes recently concluded a magnificent season under Dons manager Derek McIness, helping his side secure the runners-up spot in the Scottish Premiership.

Over the course of the campaign, Hayes, mainly playing in a wide role, found the back of the net on nine occasions and assisted 19 goals during his 32 SPL matches. In all competitions, he scored 11 goals and supplied a remarkable 24 assists.

It is said Bhoys manager Brendan Rodgers, who sanctioned the deal for Hayes, has the trump card over the likes of Forest because his team are allowing Ryan Christie to move to Aberdeen as part of the deal.

The report details that McIness’ side have struck a deal to sign the 22-year-old on a permanent basis following his loan spell at the club.

If Hayes were to make a switch to Parkhead in the summer then he will join a team that recently concluded the Scottish Premiership campaign by going the entire season unbeaten.

Republic of Ireland international Hayes currently has two years left on his current deal at Pittodrie.
