Barnsley midfielder Josh Scowen is set to make a decision on his future in the “next couple of weeks”, according to Get West London.

The news outlet report that the 24-year-old is on the radar of a host of Championship clubs with his contract set to expire at Oakwell this summer.

Promotion-chasing Aston Villa are one of four second-tier sides credited with an interest, but it is understood that no deal will be completed until after Scowen reports back from his summer holiday.

Sources close to the midfielder, meanwhile, have told Get West London that an agreement is hoped to be in place within the “next couple of weeks” that will see Scowen join his “preferred club”.

It does though, remain unclear as to Scowen’s preferred destination, with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham and Brentford also in the race for the soon-to-be-available midfielder.

Scowen joined Barnsley from Wycombe Wanderers in a £250,000 deal in January 2015, but he looks set to quit the club after reportedly rejecting their offer of a new contract.

The Sun had claimed in May that the player had doubts over Barnsley’s promotion credentials, and had set his sights on joining a side with a better chance of promotion to the Premier League.

The newspaper also reported that Aston Villa were prepared to offer him a deal worth around £9,000-per-week to move to Villa Park, where he would link up with former Barnsley team-mates James Bree and Conor Hourihane.

Scowen made 108 appearances for Barnsley in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and supplying nine assists.
