OPINION

Thomas Christiansen should forget about a move to bring Omonia Nikosia’s Matt Derbyshire back to England and instead keep tabs on three other Cyprus First Division strikers.

The Daily Mail claim newly-appointed Leeds boss Christiansen is eyeing a move for the former Blackburn and Nottingham Forest striker, after he finished at the top of the Cypriot goalscoring charts with 20 league strikes.

It is believed that Christiansen was keen to sign the 31-year-old at his previous club APOEL Nicosia but could now rival Greek giants Panathinaikos for Derbyshire in the summer.

Taking over from new Middlesbrough manager Garry Monk, Christiansen must have a successful transfer window in order to push Leeds from Championship play-off wannabes to serious promotion candidates.

This Is FutbolĀ believes that signing Derbyshire would be a step in the wrong direction but signing three one of three other strikers in Cyprus’ top tier could prove a success.
