Outspoken football pundit Chris Sutton has taken a shot at Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday after he was left out of manager Pedro Caixinha’s Europa League squad.

The 25-year-old enforcer was left out of the March appointment’s European squad alongside teammates Matt Crooks, Harry Forrester, Michael O’Halloran and Joe Dodoo.

It was the omission of Halliday which gained the attention of former attacker Gregg Wylde and he told Press Association Sport, as quoted by the Daily Record that Caixinha was taken a gamble by not including him.

However, ex-Celtic star Sutton, who is never one to hold back on his view of the Ibrox giants responded to the article via his personal Twitter account by hitting out at Halliday with a comment stating that it was not a risk with the midfielder’s poor form last season.

Halliday’s future in Glasgow is currently in doubt after two years at the club and on Monday evening the Scottish Sun reported that he was set to complete a loan move to Azerbaijani side FC Gabala.

The central midfielder alongside numerous other teammates was often criticised in the last campaign which saw him feature in 42 matches in all competitions.

He is however still contracted to the Ibrox giants until 2020 and if he does move away temporarily he may find the motivation to try and break back into Caixinha’s side.
