Newcastle United are the front runners to sign Norwich City forward Jacob Murphy, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
Sky Bet have placed the newly-promoted Premier League side at 3/1 to secure the signature of the 22-year-old winger during the summer transfer window.
This comes after the story in the Chronicle which reported that the Magpies have identified the forward as a key summer target alongside Leicester City duo Demarai Gray and Tom Laurence.
The Tyneside club are currently ahead a number of Premier League sides who are also credited with an interest in signing Murphy this summer with Swansea City placed at 5/1, West Bromwich Albion at 13/2 and Southampton at 8/1.
Signing the youngster might be a gamble for the Magpies as Murphy has never experienced Premier League football but he has shown that he can deliver the goods in the lower leagues.
The English forward produced some impressive displays for Norwich last season, contributing with nine goals and eight assists in all competitions.
Cameroon Jerome and Nelson Oliviera were the only Norwich players to score more goals than Murphy last season.
Murphy is currently away on international duty with the England Under-21 national team who are competing in the European Championships.
The youngster has featured in every single match and he has shown that he can perform on the international stage as he produced an assist in England’s 3-0 triumph over hosts Poland in the final group match.
