Rangers signing Daniel Candeias has hailed his new teammate Bruno Alves as a “fantastic player” after completing his move to Ibrox.

The 29-year-old wide-man’s arrival at the Glasgow giants was announced by the club’s official website on Sunday afternoon, and he heaped praise on his new teammate shortly after.

Speaking to Rangers TV, as quoted by the official Rangers website, he said: “I know Bruno Alves from when I was at Porto, I played with him there and I trained with Fabio Cardoso at Benfica.

“Bruno is a fantastic player, I don’t need to say too much about him because he is already known worldwide and is a top central defender.

“Having the opportunity to play with Bruno will help Fabio a lot; when I was at Porto he did the same for me and for the young kid. I think that will be really important for him.”

Candeias played alongside Alves, 35, at Porto between 2007 and 2010, and he was a teammate of Cardoso, 23, during his three-year spell at Benfica.

He becomes Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha’s fifth signing of the summer, as Alves, Ryan Jack, Dalcio, Cardoso’s arrivals have already been confirmed.

The 29-year-old joins the Gers from Benfica, where he failed to break into first team during his three seasons at the club.

Candeias spent the 2016/17 season on loan at Turkish outfit Alanyaspor where he was one of the club’s most consistent performers, scoring four goals and providing four assists in 29 league games.

However, before joining Benfica he plied his trade at Nacional between 2010 and 2014, where he was managed by Caixinha for a spell.

During his stint at Nacional he was a top performer for the side, playing 101 league and cup games, which yielded 17 goals and 12 assists.
