Rangers have signed Benfica ace Dalcio on a season-long loan, it has been confirmed.

The Glasgow giants announced the news on their official website and Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon.

The 21-year-old will join pre-season training with his new teammates immediately after completing the formalities of the transfer.

The Daily Record had claimed Dalcio had touched down in Glasgow on Sunday night ahead of a medical at the club on Monday following reports that the Gers were “desperate” to sign the 21-year-old, who plied his trade in Benfica’s B team last season.

Rangers’ official media channels characterise Dalcio as a winger but he spent most of last season playing in central midfield for the the Portuguese giants’ second XI, scoring one goal and providing three assists in 33 league encounters.

The 21-year-old has been at Benfica since a move from Belenenses, where he featured in the Europa League, in the summer of 2015.

Dalcio was capped by Portugal Under-20s six times, scoring one goal in a 1-1 friendly draw with the Netherlands in March of last year.

He is Gers manager Pedro Caixinha’s third summer signing, as the club have already completed the captures of experienced centre-back Bruno Alves from Cagliari and box-to-box midfielder Ryan Jack from Aberdeen.

The Portuguese boss is looking to overhaul his squad this summer after a disappointing 2016-17 campaign which saw his side finish third in the Scottish Premiership, 39 points behind traditional rivals Celtic.
