Pedro Caixinha believes Rangers are perhaps the only club in the world to have gone from the fourth division to the Europa League in the space of five years.

The Glasgow giants will be entering the Europa League qualifiers next month after finishing in third place during the recently concluded Scottish Premiership season.

In 2012, the Gers were dumped to the third tier of Scottish football after a number of financial problems at the club.

Since then, they have clawed their way back up the Scottish pyramid, with their former manager Mark Warburton helping them earn promotion from the Championship during the 2015/16 season.

Warburton opted to leave his role at Ibrox in February and Caixinha, who replaced him in the dugout in March, is well aware of the size of the club and what they have achieved in recent seasons.

“We are a big club and we are trying our best to get it back to where it was,” said Caixinha, as quoted by the Daily Record. “It’s the biggest club where I have been a coach.

“We have 145 years of history and have won more titles than anyone else in the world. The goals this season are to win, win, win.

“Celtic have won six straight titles, but Rangers were only in two of those leagues.

“Rangers must be the only club in the world that has been able to move from the fourth division to the Europa League in five years.

“Even when they were in the fourth division, 50,000 fans continued to go to the games. The fervour continues now and only wins are enough.”

After making a return to the top tier last summer, Rangers endured a difficult campaign, losing a number of matches and suffering heavy defeats.

They were expected to challenge their Old Firm rivals Celtic for the title but instead, they found themselves falling 39 points short of Brendan Rodgers team who ended the campaign unbeaten.

Added to that, Rodgers’ treble-winning side inflicted five defeats out of a possible five matches on their Glasgow neighbours, including two 5-1 losses, both home and away.
