Rangers legend Lorenzo Amoruso claimed veteran striker Kenny Miller will be very important for his club next season.

Amuruso played alongside the 37-year-old striker in his first stint with the Glasgow giants.

The Italian also praised Miller for his incredible longevity in an interview with the Scottish Sun.

“When I watched Rangers last season, Kenny was still a major player,” he said. “He was the guy scoring big goals for the team.

“For him to still be such an important member of the team at his age is a credit to how professional he has been throughout his career.

“The new manager will want to bring his own players in but I was happy that he gave Kenny a contract. You need players who know what it means to play for Rangers — and that’s Kenny.

“Yes, he’s getting older now but he is still in great condition and he will be very important for Rangers during the course of this season.”

Despite his elder statesman status, Miller was a mainstay in the Gers’ forward line last term, scoring 14 goals in 47 league and cup games.

He rejoined the Glasgow giants in the summer of 2014 for his third spell at Ibrox, and over the course of his eight years with the club he has amassed 240 appearances across all competitions, which have yielded 98 goals and 53 assists.

Amoruso’s vote of confidence may come as a surprise to some given the fact Gers manager Pedro Caixinha has brought in eight new faces already this summer.

Caixinha’s overhaul has seen attackers Eduardo Herrera, Daniel Candeias and Dalcio join the club, and the former in particular will be expected to challenge Miller for the strikers first team spot.

The 37-year-old’s lengthy career has seen him play for the likes of Rangers, Wolves, Celtic, Cardiff, Vancouver, Bursaspor, Derby and Hibernian.

He is also vastly experienced on the international stage, where he has scored 18 goals in 70 appearances for Scotland.
