Former Celtic player Joe Miller believes that striker Jonny Hayes must follow in the footsteps of Patrick Roberts in order to be a success at Celtic Park.

This comes after the report in the Scottish Sun which claimed that the Scottish Premier League champions have had a bid accepted by Aderdeen for the 29-year-old.

Hayes was in sensational form for Aberdeen last season, making 44 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing a staggering 24 assists.

Celtic are fully aware of Hayes’ ability as the winger scored against them twice last season, including the opening goal in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park in May.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Miller is convinced that Hayes can produce the goods for Celtic but only if he analyses Roberts’ influence on the club last season.

“If Jonny needed any reminder on how to go about his business as a Celtic player he should study everything that Roberts did last season for the club,” he said.

“He was a real match winner and a game changer.

“If Hayes can have that same kind of impact this season for Celtic he could earn the same hero status as Roberts did.

“Hayes could become the player everybody is raving about this time next season. I am sure Brendan will be telling him that.”

Roberts enjoyed two fantastic loan spells at Celtic Park and he was one of the team’s best players last season, scoring 11 goals and providing 19 assists.

The 20-year-old has returned to his parent club Manchester City and Celtic will need to find a suitable replacement in the summer.

Miller is someone who understands the pressures of joining Celtic from Aberdeen as he made the same move back in 1987.
