Former Celtic forward John Hartson has delivered his thoughts on Aberdeen midfielder Jonny Hayes following a report that an offer has been accepted for a move to Parkhead.

Sky Sports claimed on Wednesday that a £1.3 million bid for the 29-year-old had been accepted, and that Hayes should be making a move to Parkhead.

Following the report, Hartson, said to Sky Sports that Hayes should be warmly welcomed to the Glaswegian club and that Aberdeen will be sad to see him leave.

The 42-year-old, who played for Celtic between 2001 and 2006, said that with Bhoys winger Patrick Robert looking to return to Manchester City, Hayes is the man to take his place.

Hartson was quoted saying: “It looks like Celtic are going to lose Patrick Roberts. He’s been fantastic for the past two seasons on loan from Man City.

“It looks like he’s going back down the road, so Jonny Hayes is that wide man that can create chances for the front players.

“Jonny Hayes is a very good player. He’s tricky, he plays wide, he can go past a player, he can score a goal and he’s certainly one of Aberdeen’s best player. Aberdeen will certainly be disappointed about losing him.”

The Irishman had a brilliant 2016/17 season with Aberdeen, netting 28 goals and providing 10 assists during his 46 appearances with the Dons.

The 29-year-old also played against Celtic in the Scottish Cup Final, and the midfielder looked set to prevent the Hoops from winning the domestic treble after putting Aberdeen into the lead after just nine minutes.

The midfielder has a further two years remaining on his contract at Pittodrie Stadium, but after sitting in second place behind the treble winners, a move to a winning club with Champions League will be enticing.
