Former Hibernian coach Pat Fenlon has claimed that he would pick Celtic ace Leigh Griffiths over his club teammate Moussa Dembele.

The attacking duo helped Brendan Rodgers secure a domestic treble during the recently concluded season, with Dembele being one of the stars of the show.

The 20-year-old striker moved to Parkhead last summer when his contract with English Championship side Fulham expired.

He went on to score 17 goals during the Scottish Premiership campaign, with Griffiths playing a backup role and finding the back of the net on 12 occasions.

Nonetheless, Griffiths’ former coach at Easter Road, Fenlon has explained why he would pick the Scotland international over the £20million-rated Dembele.

“People talk about Dembele being worth over £20million — but I’d have Leigh over him all day,” said Fenlon, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“It doesn’t matter who he is playing against, Leigh will score goals. Look at the England game. That takes talent and bravery to score those two free-kicks.”

Over the course of the 2016/17 season, the Bhoys went on to finish the SPL campaign unbeaten and record 106 points from their 38 matches.

The only disappointment for Celtic came during the Champions League when Rodgers’ team were knocked out of the group stages.

Nonetheless, Dembele struck 32 goals from his 49 matches last term, including three strikes in the Champions League while Griffiths scored 18 goals from his 38 games.

The fixture list for the forthcoming Scottish Premiership campaign will officially be announced on Friday morning, with Rodgers hoping to guide his team to another league title.

Pedro Caixinha’s Rangers, who have already signed six players this summer, will be hoping to challenge their Old Firm rivals following their third-placed finish last season.
