Former Celtic manager Ronny Deila has fired back at Rangers chairman Dave King after he claimed only two of the Hoops’ last six titles counted.

The Ibrox chief was quoted by the Daily Record last week as to saying that Celtic have only won two Premiership titles in a row instead of six with four of their league wins coming while Rangers were outside of the Scottish top-flight following their demotion in 2012.

However, King’s claims have received a lot of critics with many keen to state that there were other teams that the Hoops had to compete with in order to win the league.

Now, Deila, who led the Glasgow giants to two of their league victories has responded by stating “that’s a stupid thing for him to say” alongside telling that he is proud of the success he achieved with Celtic.

“That’s a stupid thing for him to say. It’s not Celtic’s fault that they were out of the league. Rangers ruined themselves by spending money they didn’t have,” told Deila to the Scottish Sun.

“Celtic have won six titles in a row. Nobody can say anything different.

“The fact is, we won those trophies and you can’t ever change that.

“To say it’s only two titles in a row because Rangers were out of the league is WRONG.

“Scottish football didn’t stop for four years. There were other good teams in the league and we had to beat them.

“Neil Lennon’s team did that for two seasons and then my players did the same. We were the best in Scotland.

“I will always be proud of those titles that I won at Celtic and nothing anyone else says can take them away from me.”

Celtic recorded their highest ever point total in the last campaign with Rangers back in the league as they ran out the whole domestic campaign unbeaten with 106 points gained.

The two Old Firm rivals also played each other five times in all competitions last season, but the Gers struggled on each occasion, suffering four losses alongside a late point gained at Parkhead.

The Ibrox club have now gone under mass change this summer as they look to vastly improve, but the Hoops will also be looking to better last season under Brendan Rodgers.
