Celtic are in the running to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic following his release from Manchester United, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Sky Bet have listed the Scottish giants as fifth favourites to land the all-time great striker before the transfer window shuts on 3 September.

MLS clubs are priced in pole position at 1/2, ahead of Russian outfit Zenit Saint Petersburg (4/1), any club in the cash-rich Chinese league (11/1), and AC Milan (11/1).

Celtic are then in next place at 20/1 to secure what would be a sensational signing.

It was confirmed earlier this month that Ibrahimovic will not return to United for a second season after the club did not name him on their list of retained players for the 2017-18 season.

The 35-year-old Swede missed the end of the domestic season with knee ligament damage and is not expected to play competitively again until the start of next year.

It has been reported that Ibrahimovic could move to Los Angeles Galaxy ahead of the season starting in March 2o18, although there has been no official confirmation.

Ibrahimovic is widely regarded as one of the outstanding players of his generation and his reputation was cemented further by an outstanding season at United in which he proved his pedigree even at the age of 35.

The former PSG, AC Milan, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Ajax and Juventus striker was one of United’s top performers, scoring 27 goals in 45 league and cup games, as well as providing 10 assists.

He has also scored 62 goals in 116 internationals but has not featured since retiring in the wake of his country’s disappointing 2016 European Championships campaign.
