Dundee midfielder Scott Allan admits he has “no regrets” about his decision to join Celtic two years’ ago.

It had been announced on Dundee’s official club Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon that the 25-year-old had agreed to join the Scottish Premiership club on a season-long loan deal.

The move comes after Allan failed to make a single appearance under Brendan Rodgers at Celtic during the 2016-17 campaign, where he was instead shipped out on loan to English outfit Rotherham.

But Allan’s lack of first-team appearances for Celtic dates back to the previous season, with the former Scotland youth international making just 17 appearances in all competitions in his debut campaign.

However, after sealing another move away from the club, Allan insists his time at Celtic has still been beneficial to his development as a player.

He told STV: “I wouldn’t say I’ve been disappointing with my time at Celtic. I got a winners medal in my first year and learned a lot from Brendan Rodgers during pre-season.

“I took the decision to go on loan so I’ve learned a lot from him and I have no regrets.

“I don’t think I have to prove to anyone I just think it’s about being happy and that is by kicking a ball about every Saturday so it’s an easy decision in that sense.”

Allan began his professional career with local rivals Dundee United, having joined the club’s youth ranks at the age of 10.

He remained at the club up until 2012, where he sealed a move to the Premier League with West Brom, but he was released from his contract at the end of the 2013-14 season having failed to make a single senior appearance.

A return to Scottish football with Hibernian was then set in motion, before his subsequent spells at Celtic and Rotherham.
