Celtic midfielder Scott Allan has completed a summer switch to Dundee, it has been confirmed.

Dundee confirmed on their official club Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon that they had signed the 25-year-old on a loan deal until the end of the 2017-18 season.

Allan has been with Celtic since the summer of 2015, but he has made only intermittent appearances for the club, and failed to make a single appearance last season.

He was instead shipped out on loan to English Championship outfit Rotherham, where he made 11 appearances as the club were relegated to League One, but his last competitive appearance dates back to January.

But Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers still does not consider the midfielder a major part of his plans for the first-team squad, and has allowed him to join their Scottish rivals on another long-term loan deal.

The former West Brom player has therefore yet to feature under Rodgers since the 44-year-old took charge at Parkhead last summer, but must wait at least another year to add to his 17 appearances for the Hoops.

Allan is under contract at the reigning Scottish champions for another two years, meaning there is still hope that he can return to Celtic next year and fight forĀ a place in the first-team.

He began his career at Dundee United at the age of 10, where he remained until 2012, but his long-awaited return to the city will see him run out for their rivals Dundee for the upcoming campaign.
