West Ham have begun talks with midfielder Pedro Obiang over a new contract at the club, according to a report from the Mirror.

The newspaper claims on their website that the Hammers are hoping to ward of interest from Premier League rivals Everton, Spanish side Sevilla and Italian giants AC Milan by convincing Obiang to put pen to paper on a new deal.

The report says that the Hammers value the 25-year-old Spanish midfielder at £15million, and that a potential new contract could be signed within the next two weeks, keeping him at the club beyond his current deal which would keep him at the club until 2019.

Obiang joined the East London side for £4.3million from Italian side Sampdoria back in the summer of 2015, and has proved himself as a Premier League quality midfielder with a series of impressive performances.

A versatile player who can operate as a defensive or central midfielder, Obiang has gone on to make 60 appearances across all competitions for Slaven Bilic’s side, while he has also played in just one match for the Spanish U21 side back in 2015.

Obiang currently has Mark Noble and Cheikhou Kouyate as competition for a defensive midfield slot at West Ham, while 21-year-olds Edmilson Fernandes and Josh Cullen could also stake a claim for a central midfield role next season.
